🌐 The “Open Agentic Web” Vision
Here’s where it gets even bigger: Microsoft isn’t building a walled garden. They’re pushing something called the Open Agentic Web—a web where AI agents can roam freely between services, tools, and sites.
Two big announcements made this possible:
Model Context Protocol (MCP) – Think of it as a universal translator for AIs. It lets agents tap into tools, databases, and APIs across the internet—without needing to be locked into one company’s ecosystem.
NLWeb – An open-source framework that lets agents “talk” to websites in natural language. No more navigating menus—just ask, and the agent fetches what you need.
In short: websites stop being pages you click through and start becoming places your AI negotiates for you.
🛠 Building AI, Your Way
For developers, Microsoft unveiled two power tools:
Azure AI Foundry – Bring your own model or use Microsoft’s (including new open models like gpt-oss-20B).
Windows AI Foundry – Build locally, deploy in the cloud, mix and match as needed.
Both are designed to give you control over the entire AI lifecycle—from idea to launch.
🛡 Safety, Identity & Trust
Power without guardrails is chaos. Microsoft knows this, so they introduced Entra Agent ID—basically a passport for every AI agent, giving them a verifiable digital identity.
That means enterprises can track who (or what) did what, and stay compliant with privacy and safety laws.
⚠ The Plot Twist: A Security Scare
Just as everyone was getting hyped, news broke: a major flaw in the brand-new NLWeb protocol was discovered. Microsoft patched it quickly, but it’s a reminder that an open, agent-powered web comes with risks.
If agents can roam the internet freely, so can malicious ones.
