Confession time: for years, I thought I wanted success.
I hustled. I chased promotions. I checked all the boxes society told me I needed to check.
I got the job. The paycheck. The pats on the back.
And honestly? It looked good on paper.
But inside? I felt… empty.
Like I was running on a treadmill going nowhere.
Here’s the thing no one warns you about:
Success can feel super lonely.
It can drain you emotionally and mentally.
It can turn your relationships into side projects.
And it can make you scared to slow down because you’re afraid everything will collapse.
I thought success was the goal — but really, it was a distraction from what I actually wanted.
Spoiler alert: I didn’t want “success.”
I wanted:
Peace that didn’t depend on a vacation
Freedom that wasn’t just money in the bank
Real connection, not surface-level small talk
Purpose that filled me up, not just busywork
To feel enough without constantly proving myself
And guess what? Success didn’t give me any of that.
So I made a choice:
I stopped chasing the “ideal” version of success.
I started saying no to things that drained me.
I started putting people and rest before my to-do list.
I redefined what success means — on my terms.
And the wildest part?
When I stopped running after success, I finally started feeling like I was actually living.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Success without peace is pointless.
Hustling without rest is self-sabotage.
Achievements mean nothing if you lose yourself along the way.
Now, I measure success by asking myself:
Did I show up as my real self today?
Did I connect with the people I care about?
Did I give myself permission to rest?
Am I living a life that feels true to me?
